This is how it works
Our community is run by Pixelfed, a federated photo sharing application. At first, it might be overwhelming. Where do you start? Read on, for some hints.
If you install the Pixelfed app or browse the website with your newly registered account, you might feel a little bit lost. On the platform which you might have used before, what you would have done, is to search for some people you know. But those people might not be on the so-called Fediverse yet. You could search for hashtags of your interest, but this means authors have to provide meaningful, common hashtags, which not everybody does. There are other ways to get started and build yourself a timeline which matches your interests. There is a so called 'local' timeline which shows all public posts from this instance. Just follow the authors you like, by clicking on their username. Maybe there is also a 'Global Timeline' available, which shows a broader view of the Fediverse. That means it shows posts from other servers, from accounts, that some accounts on our instance follow. Sounds complicated? In fact, it is not, once you get used to it. It helps a lot if you post content. Like this, like-minded people can find you and follow you as well. You can also re-share posts from others, even from other instances. If you need some help, just message the Server Admin and we will get in touch with you.
